Getting there, hours, ride rules and what to pack: the practical details, one tab each.
Where: Highway 307 at km 282, about 10 km (6 miles) south of Playa del Carmen, right next to Xcaret.
From Cancun: 60 to 75 minutes by road from the Hotel Zone (about 75 km). The day trip with hotel pickup is the simplest option; pickups run from about 6:30 to 7:30 AM.
From Playa del Carmen: about 10 to 15 minutes by taxi; from Tulum, 45 to 55 minutes.
By car: parking is free at the park. Official round-trip transport can also be added to a direct ticket.
Xplor: Monday to Saturday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Closed on Sundays.
Xplor Fuego: evenings from 5:30 PM to 11 PM, usually Monday to Saturday; check the calendar, as some weeks run fewer nights.
Plan the full day. Doing every activity once with lunch takes six to eight hours, and each zipline circuit takes 60 to 100 minutes.
Arrive at opening: the first hour has the shortest waits, and weekdays beat Saturdays.
Minimum age 5. Children 5 to 11 pay 25 percent less than adults (bring proof of age).

Admission-only tickets meet at the park’s ticket office: show your
mobile voucher, collect your bracelet and head for the lockers. Tours from
Cancun collect you from your hotel lobby or the nearest pickup point on their
route, and hand out bracelets on the bus so you walk straight in.

December to April: dry, sunny and the most comfortable weather; also the busiest, above all around Christmas and Easter.
May: the hottest month. The caves stay cool, which makes Xplor one of the better hot-weather days out.
June to October: the rainy season, with afternoon storms; the hurricane season peaks from August to October. Lightning can pause the ziplines for a while.
Day of the week: Monday to Friday is quieter than Saturday. In summer, Xplor Fuego avoids the midday heat.
Watch the wait-time screens around the park and go wherever is green; the giant slide can build a one-hour queue late in the day.
On hot days do the underground river and rafts at midday; on cool or rainy days do the vehicles and ziplines first and the water last.
The zipline circuits have no exit midway and many stairs. If you are unsure, start with Hammock Splash.
Lockers are shared by two and small: pack one backpack between you.
Phone pouches with a neck lanyard and wrist-mounted cameras may be refused on the ziplines. Photo packages are all or nothing, so buy one only if you will use it.

Xplor’s sister park across the highway is the slow, cultural day: underground rivers you float at your own pace, a coral reef aquarium, jaguars and flamingos, a Maya village and the big evening show of Mexican history, music and dance. Basic admission does not include lunch.
Xplor is the Riviera Maya’s adventure park: a patch of jungle and
limestone caves south of Playa del Carmen where you zipline, drive, swim and paddle all
day, then eat as much as you like. Here is what the day really involves, what it
really costs, and who should book something else.
What you are actually visiting
Xplor is run by Grupo Xcaret, the company behind Xcaret next door and Xel-Há
down the coast. The park is built over a cave system typical of the Yucatan, where
rivers run underground instead of on the surface. Six adventures share it: two
zipline circuits of seven lines each, with towers up to about 45 m (150 ft) and
splash landings; two self-drive routes in amphibious vehicles; a 400 m swim and a
570 m raft ride along underground rivers; Hammock Splash and the Toboganxote slide;
and a walking trail through the caves. It is entirely self-guided. You can repeat
anything, in any order, until closing time.
The buffet is included and open all day, with unlimited aguas frescas, coffee and hot chocolate but no alcohol.
The ticket math, honestly
The official adult list price is about $159 in 2026. Buy direct at least 7 days
ahead and it drops 10 percent; 21 days or more, 15 percent, to roughly $135.
Children 5 to 11 pay 25 percent less. On Viator the same admission starts at $163:
a little more, but with free cancellation up to 24 hours before and pay-later
checkout, which matters in a region where a storm or a stomach bug can wreck a
plan. If you are certain of your date and can book three weeks out, the official
site is the cheapest way in. The day trip from Cancun at
$195 adds round-trip hotel transport, about 150 km (95 miles) of driving you do
not have to organize, and bracelets handed out on the bus. Either way, food and
soft drinks are included, so there is little else to spend beyond photos.
The one thing people underestimate: the walking. Reviewers
regularly count 20,000 steps, the zipline circuits climb hundreds of stairs with
no exit midway, and the activities are spread far apart. Wear proper water shoes,
and if anyone in your group struggles with stairs, plan around the rivers, rafts
and vehicles instead.
Day park or Xplor Fuego?
Xplor Fuego is the same park after dark, from 5:30 PM, with torches along the
trails, a single zipline circuit of seven lines instead of two circuits, and dinner
instead of lunch.
It is cooler, usually a little cheaper, and has a magical atmosphere in the caves.
The trade-off is time: you have about five and a half hours instead of eight, and
from the lines you see torches, not the jungle canopy. For a first visit in the
dry season, go by day; in the heat of summer, or if you want your morning free,

Xplor Fuego lights the circuits with fire from 5:30 PM: fewer ziplines, more atmosphere, far less heat.
Who should book something else
Xplor suits teens, couples and active families. It is a poor fit for children under
5 (they cannot enter), for anyone who cannot climb many stairs, and for travelers who
want beaches, animals or a show. That group is better off at
Xcaret, which also has underground rivers but at a gentle pace.
Cruise passengers should be careful: the full day rarely fits a port call, and several
poor reviews come from missed connections with the ship.
Getting the most from the day
Arrive at opening, drop everything into one locker and check the wait-time screens:
the ziplines and the giant slide queue up first. Do the water circuits in the heat of
midday, and eat late, as the buffet stays open. Bring mineral sunscreen and a

Hotel transport and photos cost extra unless your tour includes them.
Is Xplor all-inclusive?

Is Xplor worth the money?

Who owns Xplor Park? Is it part of Xcaret?
Xplor is run by Grupo Xcaret, the Mexican company that also operates Xcaret, Xel-Há and several other parks and tours on the Riviera Maya. It is a separate park with its own ticket: Xplor is not included in an Xcaret ticket, but official combo packages for both parks are sold with a multi-park discount.
Do I need a passport for Xplor?
There is no passport check at the gate, but carry a photo ID: children 5 to 11 may be asked for proof of age for the child price, and drivers of the amphibious vehicles need their licence. Keep ID and cards in your locker while you are in the water.
