What to bring to Xplor

Almost every Xplor review ends with the same advice: bring the right shoes. Here is the complete packing list, what the park provides, and what it does not allow.

The packing list

• Closed water shoes with a heel strap or laces. Flip-flops and Crocs are not allowed on several activities, flimsy shoes hurt in the caves, and shoes bought at the park are expensive (one reviewer paid about $80).
• Swimsuit worn under light, quick-dry clothes. You will be wet most of the day.
• Towel and a full change of clothes. Xplor does not provide towels.
• Mineral sunscreen containing only zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Chemical sunscreens are not allowed in the rivers. Much of the park is shaded or underground.
• A waterproof phone pouch, ideally without a neck lanyard, which may be refused on the ziplines. Wrist-mounted action cameras are also often refused.
• A card or some cash for photos and souvenirs, and photo ID: proof of age for children’s tickets, and a driver’s licence for the amphibious vehicles.

How to dress

Think sports day at a lake: swimsuit, shorts or leggings, a T-shirt that can get wet, and hair tied back. Leave jewelry and watches at the hotel, and use glasses straps if you need glasses. Hats without a chin strap are no use on the ziplines. At Xplor Fuego bring a light layer for after the rivers, and biodegradable insect repellent.

What the park provides

Helmets, harnesses, life jackets and paddles; a locker for two people (small, so share one backpack); changing rooms and restrooms; the buffet, snacks and unlimited soft drinks. Outside food and drinks are not allowed (baby food is the exception). Check the ride limits before you go, and compare tickets once you have your date.
